Eric Hassell & Son Ltd. have been appointed the exclusive agents for Europe West Indies Lines (EWL).  EWL have introduced a direct service from Europe and the UK, with Bridgetown being the first Port of Call from Europe. EWL is also using the Bridgetown Port as its transshipment hub.

EWL, Europe West Indies Lines, is a member of Wethold International B.V., which has its head office in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, on the banks of the river Maas. At the beginning of 1996 EWL increased its capacity by introducing two one thousand TEU vessels into its liner service.

With mv ``EWL Suriname" and ``EWL West Indies" and its two other motor vessels ``EWL Antilles" and ``EWL Venezuela" EWL offers a sailing every 10 days between Europe and Barbados, Surinam, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, the Netherlands Antilles, Venezuela, Colombia, Dominican Republic and vice versa.

Besides its port agents in Rotterdam, Felixstowe, Hamburg, Bremen, Antwerp and Bilbao EWL is also represented in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finalnd, Italy, Portugal and Ireland. Through crosstrades EWL can also serve you to and from the Mediterranean Sea region, Africa, Australia, the Middle and Far East. EWL operates this liner service fully containerized, with FCL/FCL (Full Container Load), LCL/LCL (Less Than Container Load) and LCL/FCL shipments. All types of containers: 20' and 40' dry vans; flattracks and open tops are available. Although fully containerized there is still the possibility of accepting non-containerized cargoes such as turbines etc.

In June 2002, Eric Hassell & Son Ltd. won appointment as the new exclusive agents for SEABOARD MARINE (SML).  SML provide a weekly scheduled direct service from Miami Florida to Bridgetown. SML is the only service to leave late Friday night at a private terminal (no time restrictions on port delivery) and arrive Bridgetown the following Thursday morning.
